simultan

Simultan (German for “simultaneous”), coming from the Latin simul—“at the same time,” suggests an instant of time. But time is more than an instant. For Werner Dafeldecker (tape loop, electronics, composition), Morton Joh (bass drum), and Simon James Phillips (piano, composition), our shared time spans the last eight years of working together on this project. Simultan reflects the extended nature of that time: we’ve followed different paths that sometimes converged, sometimes diverged, yet always intersected when we met to play. Our relationship grew beyond the professional: we shared losses, desires, confusions, and revealed parts of ourselves that had been hidden. We’ve gained and lost loved ones, grown older, and witnessed the world together, yet separately. This record is a vinyl documentation of our shared simul.
